If you have a desire to help our patients and families and further the important work of Seasons Hospice, we encourage you to volunteer your time and caring support.
We have many ways in which volunteers can contribute. What is your passion, your expertise, your hobby? Think about it for a few minutes, and then review the list below. You might find a volunteer area that is right up your alley. If not, don't hesitate to contact our volunteer coordinator to talk about whether you can help in a way that is not listed below. However you help, you will make an impact, a difference, in the lives of the many people who are touched by the work and care of Seasons Hospice.
Companionship and Home Help
By simply coming to visit patients and be with them, you can give a much needed break to caregivers and a lift to patients. In addition to providing companionship, you can assist with household chores or run errands.
Patients may need a ride to an appointment, or visiting family members a lift to the grocery store or the airport.
When a patient mentions wishing he or she could make one last dream come true, our staff and volunteers do their best to make it happen. Gold Cross ambulance of Rochester, MN donates their transportation services when a patient who requires medical assistance to travel makes a wish to have one last journey. Perhaps it is a request to attend a special event such as a wedding, spend a holiday at home, or even visit an old friend to say goodbye. Volunteers can lend a hand when family members are unable to accompany the patient on their journey.
Administrative Support at the Seasons Hospice Offices
You can help in the Seasons Hospice administrative offices in Rochester, MN by filing, answering phone calls, helping with mailings, and serving as an an office assistant.
Support family members in their time of loss and grieving. You can help by writing a card, making phone calls, or by assisting at the Seasons Hospice Center for Grief Education and Support. At the Center for Grief Education and Support, you can do clerical work, assist with grief support groups, or offer personal support to individuals and families.
If you are a member of a civic or religious organization that provides volunteer services, Seasons Hospice can use your group's services for special projects and public events.
11th Hour Volunteers
No one should die alone and thanks to 11th hour volunteers, no one has to. Our 11th hour volunteers receive additional training and offer comfort, support, and a peaceful presence for the patient who is alone. 11th hour volunteers can also be available to sit with patients' families that desire the additional support.
Nursing Students Volunteer Rotation
If you're a nursing student or recent graduate, rotate in as a volunteer for a semester, and work with an experienced hospice nurse in the Seasons Hospice House, or wherever the patient calls home.
Therapy dogs bring comfort, support, love, and animal companionship to people of all ages. As a volunteer therapy dog team, you and your therapy dog will visit Seasons Hospice patients in their home, or wherever the patient calls home. To qualify, teams must undergo a thorough testing process.
Miniature therapy horses can also provide companionship to Seasons Hospice patients. Volunteers can assist the horse's trainer during visits to the patient's residence or the Seasons Hospice House.
Seasons Hospice House and Special Events
Seasons Hospice regularly needs help at the beautiful Seasons Hospice House in rural Rochester, MN. Volunteer tasks can include gardening and maintaining the grounds, baking cookies, helping with the regular upkeep of the interior of the house, assisting with special events, and working with administrators and healthcare professionals who educate and inform the community about hospice.
Our sewing volunteers can help in a variety of ways. They can create keepsakes such as throw pillows and teddy bears out of patients clothing as requested by the family. Sewing volunteers also help by altering patients' current clothes to fit better. Quilting projects are a wonderful way to make memories more lasting and concrete, and our sewing volunteers can help patients with developing and finishing their projects.
Teens Volunteer is our program geared specifically for high school students interested in providing high-quality, high-impact community service. High school students work with Seasons Hospice staff or adult volunteers at the Seasons Hospice House in the beautiful Weatherhill area of Rochester, MN.
Veterans to Veterans
Veterans in our community have the opportunity to support their fellow veterans who are in the Seasons Hospice program. Veteran volunteers have a unique ability to connect with veterans and their families. Our veteran volunteers can assist veteran patients with reminiscing and telling life stories, taking part in pinning ceremonies and distributing certificates, assisting with replacing lost medals, and more.
